Weddings

What better place to be married than Maine? Make sure you document it beautifully and accurately by hiring Debra Bell (that’s me) and my team at Bell Imaging & Design. Located in Hermon, Maine, I’ve been honored to help couples document their Big Day for over 6 years.

There are so many photographers available to help you with your Maine wedding photography.

Many people take advantage of saving a few dollars by using friends, family, and less expensive photographers to document the Big Day. But they forget that when the wedding is over, the cake is eaten, and the gifts are opened there are four things that remain with you: your rings, your marriage, your wedding video, and your wedding photographs.

That’s why it’s so important to leave this task to a professional. This person will be responsible for ensuring that each part of your wedding is documented. Did you know that there are seven parts to your wedding: preparation, ceremony, post-ceremony, group photos, bride and groom portraits, details, and the reception. The person responsible for documenting these parts of your day will be part cheerleader, part confidant, part wedding coordinator, part director, and part observer.

Wedding photography is more than just snapping pictures. Your Maine wedding photography will create memories you’ll cherish for years.

Five Tips for Selecting a Professional Wedding Photographer
Written by Debra Bell, Bell Imaging & Design

Choosing a photographer to capture your wedding can be an overwhelming task, but by following these simple tips you’ll have nothing but beautiful pictures and a great wedding experience.

  1. Decide on your budget and style. When you're developing your wedding budget, set aside 8-10 percent for your photographer. Know what you MUST have for photographic items (thank you cards, engagement pictures, or an official album) and what would be nice. Don't discount a photographer based on price. Many have packages or are willing to create a custom package for your Big Day. Also know what kind of style you want: unobtrusive, documentary photography, or staged and posed photography. It all counts on the Big Day.
  2. Consult family, friends, and other vendors for suggestions. Word-of-mouth referrals are incredibly important. These referrals give you a first-person account of what it's like to work with a professional photographer. Other vendors — such as a hotel or reception location — are also great referral sources because they've worked with many photographers. A quality photographer will have a strong network of vendor partners and will be positive about their partners.
  3. Resist the temptation to hire family and friends. Wedding photography is a big and stressful responsibility. Before you say "I do" to friends and family, interview them. Have they done a wedding before (ask for samples)? What happens if they can't be there? Do they have backup cameras, lenses, flashes, memory cards, batteries, and chargers? How will the final photos be provided?
